Forced To Leave His Job Due To Religious Discrimination, Pune Based Techie Completes One Month Of His Satyagraha

Before being forced to leave, Aaman Khan was harassed by his manager for months for his religious practices and attire.

Aaman Khan, a 37-year-old software professional who was forced to quit his job due to religious discrimination at EXFO, a Canada based MNC in Pune, has been sitting on a satyagraha since August 15.

Khan’s then manager at the MNC, Kishore Kotecha reportedly harassed him for wearing ‘religious attire’ and his religious practices. According to a report by Two Circles, when Khan tried to defend his constitutional rights, Kotecha told him that practicing his religion in office was against company policy.

After facing prolonged harassment, Khan was forced to leave his job. He wrote to the EXFO headquarter in Canada, but hasn’t received a reply. He has also approached the Labour Commission of India and the Pune district collector’s office.

A believer in the Gandhian model of passive resistance, Khan started his Satyagraha a month ago. He is being supported by human rights activist like Adv. Shahid Nadeem ofJamiat Ulma, who has written to the Chief Justice of India in Khan’s support. They have also urged other human rights defenders to support the cause.

Aaman, who has 12 dependents, has been out of a job since June 2018. He is demanding that the company takes action against discriminatory policies, and that he be reinstated.
