The Patna High Court Chief Justice Rajendra Menon on Monday ordered Patna SSP Manu Maharaj to produce Khagaria District and Sessions Judge Subhash Chandra Chaurasia’s daughter Yashaswini in the court on Tuesday. The judge has ordered the SSP to form a special team, including two lady officials to bring Yashaswini to the court. “I am in Patna HC now. The judge has asked Yashaswini to be produced in the chief justice’s chamber tomorrow,” Siddharth Bansal told NC24x7. - Assam: Couple Beaten Up Night Long, Woman’s Head Shaved For Daring To Be In Love
In another apparent case of moral policing, a couple was allegedly beaten up night-long and the woman’s head shaved by villagers for having an illicit affair in Assam’s Nagaon district, police said today. The incident took place at Jhumurmur yesterday and the critically injured couple was handed over to the police this morning, they said. They were initially admitted to a local hospital at Kathiatoli, and later referred to the Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital at Nagaon, a police officer said. It is a third major incident in Assam this month where locals took the law into their hands and thrashed people. Read more.
- Uttar Pradesh: Minor Girl Commits Suicide Over Sexual Harassment
A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide after facing sexual harassment in Kamalpur village in neighbouring Kanpur Dehat district, police said today. Station officer (Rajepur) Shashi Bhushan Mishra said the girl committed suicide yesterday while she was alone at her home, as her father had gone to the field and mother was busy feeding the cattle. On a complaint lodged by the girl’s family, a local man was arrested, Mishra said. Read more.

In Ahmedabad, the Municipal Corporation has chosen five out of 54 heritage structures to install luminaires to highlight their architectural details, Ahmedabad Mirror reported. The corporation did not include even one out of the 34 Islamic monuments present in the city for this lighting project.
The 600-year-old city is popular for its Islamic monuments like Rani Sipri Mosque, Sidi Saiyyed ni Jali, Ahmed Shah Mosque, Jama Masjid, Bibiji’s Masjid and Sarkhej Roza. It is one of the reasons why Ahmedabad got the coveted Heritage City tag by UNESCO. Read more.

The Chattisgarh Municipal Corporation had spent more than Rs 2.5 lakh to celebrate International Yoga Day as they were expecting more than 5,000 participants at Jayanti Stadium, Polo Ground in Bhilai on June 21. But, not a single local turned up for the event. Even the Municipal Corporation officials who had spent four days in constructing the pavilion, arranging mattresses for the event, chose not to come, Dainik Bhaskar reported. “The event was organised on the orders of zone officer. Now I don’t know why people didn’t come,” said R.K Saahu, superintendent engineer at the Municipal Corporation, Bhilai. Read more

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram today slammed the government for terming the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a “celebration of honesty”, saying if that was the case, why did the BJP oppose it for five years prior to coming to power in 2014. In a series of tweets, the senior Congress leader asked the government whether it knew that millions of traders and exporters were affected because their money was stuck and not being refunded promptly after the implementation of the GST regime, which completes one year. “If GST is a ‘victory of integrity’ and ‘celebration of honesty’, why did the BJP oppose it and stall it for 5 years? Narendra Modi government’s much-publicised National Health Protection Mission was rejected by Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Sunday on various grounds.
The IMA stated that the package rates (under Ayushman Bharat scheme) are unacceptable as they are exposing the patients to danger in hospitals. Five days after the police tried to stop an RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) shakha near a Sufi saint’s mausoleum in Agra, one official was suspended, while another was transferred, The Telegraph reported. The step was taken after local legislators discussed the matter with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Agra city Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh was shifted to the anti-terrorist squad in Lucknow. Sub Inspector Raj Kumar Yadav, who was in charge of the Ekta police outpost of Tajganj police station was suspended on June 22. He will receive only half of his pay and face an inquiry now. A 30-year old Dalit was allegedly beaten up for riding a motorcycle past the house of a sarpanch in a village here, the police said today. A video purportedly showing the incident has also gone viral on social media. The police last night arrested the sarpanch of Dharampur village and four others in connection with the incident which occurred last week, Deri police post’s assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ramsewak Jha said. The victim, Dayaram Ahirwar (a Dalit), in his complaint alleged that on June 21, the village sarpanch, Hemant Kurmi, his brothers and one of their neighbours beat him up severely after objecting to his riding a motorcycle in front of their house, Jha said. According to a report published in The Caravan Vantage, police are not only evading important questions, but have written a wrong FIR too. Police have neither arrested nor detained any person, easily identifiable in the video and photographs showing two men — Qasim and Samiuddin — getting beaten up in Hapur over cow slaughter rumours on June 18, according to the report. Till now, no written statement had been taken from Qasim’s family, the circle officer Pawan Kumar said. The testimonies of the villagers also don’t figure in the investigation yet.
