Hapur: After Mob Kills One Man And Injures Another, Police Are Doing Their Bit To Save The Culprits

Testimonies of family and villagers not recorded. Viral video indicates the presence of police during the lynching.

If the images and videos related to Hapur lynching were not enough to make one shudder, police are helping the culprits to run away without facing any punishment now. According to a report published in The Caravan Vantage, police are not only evading important questions, but have written a wrong FIR too.

Police have neither arrested nor detained any person, easily identifiable in the video and photographs showing two men — Qasim and Samiuddin — getting beaten up in Hapur over cow slaughter rumours on June 18, according to the report.

Till now, no written statement had been taken from Qasim’s family, the circle officer Pawan Kumar said. The testimonies of the villagers also don’t figure in the investigation yet. Qasim’s family has also not received the postmortem report.

The video of the 65-year-old man Qasim being lynched appears to have been shot in the presence of policemen, the report mentioned as “a voice from the crowd can be heard saying: ‘Policemen found the cows. The one’s standing right here’.”

Although all accounts of residents around the area indicate that the lynching took place on suspicion of cow slaughter, the FIR claims that the incident was one of road rage. Pilkhuwa Kotwali police have registered a case against 25 unknown persons under Sections 147, 148, 307, and 302 of the Indian Penal Code, the report said.

The incident according to Qasim’s family

Mahtab, Qasim’s son said that he (Qasim) had received a call that morning which was about a deal on the purchase of the animals in Bajhera Khurd, a village about 7 kilometres from Hapur.

At about 4 pm that day, Mahtab received a call from a neighbour, who told him that Qasim was at Pilkhuwa Kotwali. Mahtab said, “We went to the police station, but he was not there. Then we went to the hospital. His body was there.” Mahtab added, “There were marks on his body of sticks, of knives, and of axes.”

The above incidents have not been written in the FIR.

Wrong FIR

The FIR which is signed by Samiuddin’s brother Yaseen states: “My brother Samiuddin, while he along with Qasim was going from Madapur to Dhaulana via Bajhera, was hit by a motorcycle. When he protested … the motorist called around 25-30 people … who beat them up with sticks.”

Yaseen told The Caravan reporter that he did not write the FIR. He signed it because he was asked to do so by the person who wrote it—Dinesh Parmar. Parmar is a Rajput of neighbouring village Hindalpur and an acquaintance of Samiuddin. Parmar said that he was forced by circle officer Kumar to write it.

Media also spreads blatant lies

An article related to the Hapur incident was published in Amar Ujala on June 19, which contained a picture of a cow and calf captioned: “Cow and calf seized from the crime scene by Police”. Two policemen were visible in the background of the photo.

Circle officer, Pawan Kumar said, “No cows were seized.”

The family members asserted that if there was indeed a cow slaughter, “Where is the blood in the field? Where is the weapon with which he allegedly slaughtered the cow?” Salim continued, “My brother was killed because he was Muslim… why else would he have been killed?”

Mohammed Irfan, Qasim’s brother in law, said, “Yogi Adityanath has said that the cow is our mother, that no one should slaughter or touch cows, and that whoever does should be sentenced to life in prison. They have seen that there could be nothing better than this—beat Muslims, kill them, maim them, and keep a cow by them.”
