The Demographic Shift That BJP Leaders ‘Warn’ About Is A Lie. Census Shows Muslim Growth Rate At Its Lowest In History
“The way the Muslim population is increasing, the existence of Hindus is in danger,” a BJP lawmaker had said earlier this year.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders routinely hype that the growing Muslim population will result in a demographic shift in the country. However, according to the 2011 Censusdata, the Muslim population growth rate is at its lowest in the history of India.
In fact, the fall in the growth rate of the Muslim population is sharper than any other religious community’s in India.
Between 2001-2011, the growth rate of Muslim population reduced by 11.6 per cent. In the year 2001, the growth rate of Muslim community was 36 per cent and stooped down to 24.6 per cent in 2011.
This shows that it is nearly impossible that the population share of the Hindu community will be overtaken anytime soon.
The share of the Hindu community in the total population has registered a decline, but only of a meagre 0.7 percent, reported First Post.
What the BJP-RSS do not understand is that all the religious communities in India are witnessing a transition, and the population of theHindu community is also registering an increase, albeit at at a slower pace.
Nowhere do the statistics reveal a so-called ‘threat’ to the Hindu community, as claimed by BJP lawmakers and other Hindu right wing groups. It is just another bogeyman, fielded by to create an atmosphere of fear and apprehension among the majority Hindu community.
