Refugees Are Coming To India From Tamil Nadu, Says Union Minister Kiren Rijiju
The minister later apologised for this apparent slip of tongue, said he meant “Sri Lanka”.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, caused an uproar in Parliament on Tuesday, when he said that refugees from “Tamil Nadu” were coming to India.
While speaking on the issue of Rohingya refugees, Rijiju had said in the Lok Sabha, “We have refugees who are coming to this country from Tamil Nadu, Tibet part of China…”
This immediately resulted in an uproar, as several members were outraged at Rijiju’s remark. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader then apologised, citing that it was “a slip of tongue” and that what he had meant to say was “Sri Lanka”.
According to reports, members of the Congress and the Left also shouted slogans in protest of the remark.
