Rahul Gandhi Shares Cartoon, Calls ‘Modi-Master of Data Manipulation’ after BJP Releases Reworked GDP Data

BJP released back-series data of GDP which lowered GDP during United Progressive Alliance rule.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi used a cartoon to mock Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s decision to rework the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.

In a tweet, Gandhi shared well-known cartoonist Satish Acharya’s work and called it, “Modi-Master of Data Manipulation.”

The cartoon depicts Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statue directing finance minister Arun Jaitley, who is atop a crane with a hammer, to bring down the taller edifice of former PM Manmohan Singh standing beside. Seemingly encouraging Jaitley to bring down the hammer, Modi’s statue instructs, “Aur Neeche” (Even lower).

The cartoon was posted in the wake of BJP employing new calculation methodology for back-series data of GDP. The thus-reworked data was released on Wednesday, November 29. The new data effectively downgraded GDP during UPA rule. Calling the newly-released data as jugglery, Congress said that it was a “desperate attempt of a defeatist Modi Government to undermine India’s growth story over last 15 years.”
