Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on January 6 called out Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for claiming that procurement orders worth Rs one lakh crore was provided to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Surjewala alleged that HAL admitted not receiving the money.
Citing a newspaper report, Surjewala tweeted, “The lying Defence Minister’s lies get exposed! Def Min claimed that procurement orders worth Rs one lakh crore provided to HAL. HAL says Not a single paisa has come, as not a single order has been signed. For the first time, HAL forced to take a loan of Rs 1,000 crore to pay salaries.”

Earlier, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera had alleged that Sitharaman lied in Parliament “with a straight face”. He suggested that the defence minister lied when she said HAL and France’s Dassault Aviation never had an agreement. “Is the country’s Defence Minister not aware that on March 13, 2014, a work-share agreement was signed?” he asked.
