Pakistan’s ISI Prefers Modi As India’s Prime Minister, Says Former ISI DG Asad Durrani
‘Has Rahul Gandhi formed ‘mahagathbandhan’ with Pakistan?’ Amit Shah asked yesterday.
In a book titled The Spy Chronicles, Pakistan’s Former Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General (retd) Asad Durrani and former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief AS Dulat have written on an array of issues, including Kashmir, Kargil operation, Kulbushan Jadhav’s arrest, Hafiz Saeed, and Burhan Wani, among others.
According to a India Today report, the former DG ISI suggested that “the Indian PM Narendra Modi is a more preferred choice for the ISI because Modi is a hardliner, who can take hard decisions.”

Interestingly, ISI preferred Modi as the prime minister as they felt his hardline approach would ruin India and thereby benefit Pakistan.
“The reaction in Pakistan to Modi’s election as the PM was that it served India right. Let Modi take care of India, destroy its image, and possibly destroy its inner balance. I’ve not been impressed by his antics,” Durrani said.
He called Modi’s visit to Pakistan a “tamasha,” saying it “merely created spectacular confusion”.
“What did he mean crash-landing after giving Pakistan an earful in Afghanistan? He comes to Raiwind to attend Nawaz Sharif’s granddaughter’s wedding, and his drama and tamasha merely created spectacular confusion. People were shell-shocked and just stood there. I prefer someone like Vajpayee, who did not deliver but his approach was right,” Durrani added.
According to Durrani, the ISI preferred a BJP-led government in India as the Vajpayee government gave them the impression that a Muslim-baiter in power would not necessarily be a bad thing for Pakistan.
In other words, the ISI sees BJP as an instrument which can destroy the image of India.
On Saturday, BJP president Amit Shah tweeted:
Rahul Gandhi says ‘Modi Hatao’
Pakistan says ‘Modi Hatao’Now Pakistan also supports Rahul Gandhi’s baseless allegations against PM Modi.

However, the ISI prefers Modi to Rahul Gandhi. Shah, it seems, is asking the wrong questions.
