Our Diversity Unites Us, BJP Is Trampling On This Idea: Kamal Haasan

The actor-turned-politician slammed the saffron party.

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan floated a political party Makkal Needhi Maiam in February. In a recent interview, the actor-turned-politician slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for attempting to destroy the “diversity of India which unites us”.

“I hate monoculture of any kind. Even in my films, I have gone against masala movies. Our diversity unites us. The BJP is trampling on this idea,” Haasan told Hindustan Times.

On this context, Haasan added, “Where is the word Hindu mentioned in the Vedas? The idea started with Adi Shankara’s Shanmatha Sthapana. Even he didn’t use the word Hindu. Let diversity remain in religion too.”

In the recent past, the divide between North India and South India has increased and a debate has started where the South Indians are underlining that they are feeling neglected by the Centre. “We sing a National Anthem, which is not in our language. But I fear that this unity is in danger today. Mahatma Gandhi was Mahatma Gandhi for the whole nation. We did not look at him as a North Indian,” Haasan said.

Even in the past, the Hey Ram actor had underlined that he was floating his party against the rising Hindu propaganda.
