Official Declares BJP Govt Can’t Provide Electricity To All
The government has refused to take any responsibility for matters of stolen infrastructure.
Power Ministry Joint Secretary Arun Kumar Verma said on Monday that the Narendra Modi government cannot ensure that electricity supply will reach all the villages of the country.
Verma told The Hindu, “While it is the Centre’s responsibility to connect households and villages to the power grid or provide them alternative sources of electricity, it cannot guarantee the supply of electricity to them.”
Although the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government claimed 100 per cent electrification in villages earlier this year, the ground reality is quite different.
Many villages, which are electrified as per the official government documents have reported stolen electrification infrastructure. Other households receive power supply for merely a few hours in a day.
The government has refused to take any responsibility for matters related to stolen infrastructure.
Verma stated, “It is not our job to go and check every village whether the infrastructure is still there or if they are getting electricity supply. That has to be done by the State governments and the distribution companies (discoms). But we are aware that access to electricity also means consistent supply.”
