Non Election Time Modi: Peace, Unity, Harmony At Core of India’s Philosophies.

With no elections on currently, Narendra Modi has effortlessly switched to his secular avatar. In what will certainly be seen as “minority appeasement” by BJP’s core supporters, he also offered a ‘chadar’ at a Dargah (not himself, banish the thought) but through Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Naqvi visited Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s shrine at Ajmer Sharif and offered a chadar on Modi’s behalf. It is unclear as to whether Naqvi offered a chadar for himself also and/or on behalf of any other BJP or RSS leader.

Modi conveyed his greetings to followers of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in India and abroad on the occasion of the 806th annual Urs in his message.

“Peace, unity and harmony are at core of various philosophies in the country, Sufism is also one of them. When we talk of Sufi saints in India, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti appears as a symbol of great spiritual traditions.

The service of humanity made by ‘Gharib Nawaz’ will continue to be an inspiration for future generations”, Modi said.

On the occasion of the annual Urs of the great saint, Modi said he wished for “harmonious co-existence” of various aspects of Indian culture.

It is unclear whether Modi believes eating beef or inter-religious marriages are included in this “harmonious existence” that Modi spoke of.

Modi’s statements are a departure from his and BJP’s election time speak. In the recent Gujarat Assembly elections, Modi had alleged that Pakistan wanted Ahmed Patel to be Gujarat CM. If the BJP lost the Bihar election, fireworks would go off in Pakistan, Amit Shah warned before the assembly elections in Bihar.

Urs formally began today. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the dargah. Religious ceremonies of the Urs will begin tonight and will be presided by the spiritual head of the dargah, Zainul Abedin Ali Khan.
