MSP Hike ‘Historic Betrayal’, Farmers To Protest Against Centre
The farmers’ groups will march to the Parliament Street on July 20.
Farmers’ groups on Sunday announced a protest against the Centre’s minimum support price (MSP) for Kharif crops, which they said was a “historic betrayal” and “blatant fraud on farmers”.
The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) said that the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) at the centre based the MSP hike on a lower calculation than what was recommended by the Swaminathan Commission, reported The Hindu.
AIKSCC has announced a four-month agitation which will be followed by a march to Delhi. The committee also said that it would hold 400 meetings against the 40 meetings being conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on MSP hike.
AIKSCC convener V.M. Singh stated, “The Modi government’s MSP for kharif is based on the same formula of A2 + FL that was given by the Manmohan Singh government for rabi. This is entirely different from the demand of C2 + 50 per cent, which was also promised by the prime minister.”
“There is no plan to ensure procurement even for the crops for which MSP has been announced,” he added.
