Modi-Shah Fail: Yeddyurappa’s Stint As Karnataka CM Ends In 2 days
Yeddyurappa quit after making a speech.
In an interesting turn of events, BS Yeddyurappa resigned as Karnataka chief minister ahead of the trust vote that was scheduled on Saturday at 4 pm. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah’s tricks fall flat as Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs refused to budge even after repeated attempts were made for horse-trading.
“They disrespected the mandate of people of Goa, they disrespected the mandate of people of Karnataka. We have explained to the people of BJP and RSS that there is a limit to arrogance. They don’t respect any institution. The institutions of this country is bigger than Modi and murder Amit Shah. The youth have seen the way they were trying to lure Congress and JD (S) MLAs. Modi says he is against corruption, but he is corruption,” Congress president Rahul Gandhi told media persons in a press conference after the trust vote was called off.
In last 24 hours, the Congress party has released multiple tapes allegedly showing the BJP leaders offering bribes to MLAs. The Yeddyurappa camp’s confidence fizzled out as the hours of floor test came closer. Two Congress MLAs who were not present at the Assembly appeared minutes before the scheduled test and walked straight to the Congress side. While Shah is considered a “master-strategist” by many analysts, local Congress leader DK Shivakumar skilfully brought the two leaders back to the Congress fold.
After staying in a Bengaluru resort, the Congress and JD (S) MLAs were ferried to Hyderabad for their safety. Before Hyderabad, an attempt was made to take them to Kochi. However, on the alleged orders of Shah and Modi, the MLAs were not allowed to fly. The MLAs were taken by bus to the neighbouring state only to be brought back in one day as the Supreme Court on Friday ordered a floor test to be conducted on Saturday.
The BJP was hopeful of repeating Operation Kamala this time around. But, the Congress party and JD (S) smartly kept their MLAs together, away from the clutches of BJP. If recorded audio tapes are to be considered, money, ministership and property were offered to the MLAs in order to keep the BJP government alive in the state. In fact, the families of many MLAs were also contacted in an attempt to make them change sides.
In this rampant show of ugly power, corruption and money, the BJP’s short fairytale was cut short as the Congress-JD (S) knocked the doors of Supreme Court after the governor invited Yeddyurappa to be sworn-in as chief minister, blatantly ignoring their plea.
The third-time chief minister bid adieu in the Assembly with an emotional speech speaking about farmers and their issues without throwing any light on the multiple forms of corruption that have surfaced in the last few days.
