Modi Govt Doesn’t Respect RSS View: Priyanka Gandhi Attacks Centre’s Jammu And Kashmir Policy

Either the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government no longer respects its ideological parent organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s views, or it doesn’t believe that there is an “issue” in Jammu and Kashmir, said Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on August 19, hitting hard at the Centre’s policy.
Gandhi took to Twitter and wrote, “So the RSS has declared in a tweet that all ‘issues in the society’ should be resolved through cordial dialogue? I suppose either Modiji and his government no longer respect the RSS’s views or they don’t believe that there is an ‘issue’ in Jammu and Kashmir. Interesting.”

Gandhi was referring to the clarification issued by the RSS over its chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comment on reservations.
On Sunday, Bhagwat had said that there should be conversation in harmonious atmosphere between those in favour of reservation and those against it. Bhagwat had also said that when he had spoken on reservation earlier, it created a lot of noise and the whole discussion diverted from the actual issue, adding that those who favoured reservation should speak keeping in mind the interests of those who are against it, and similarly, those who oppose it should do vice-versa.
Following the outrage over Bhagwat’s comments, the RSS issued a clarification on August 19. The Sangh’s “prachar pramukh” Arun Kumar called the row “needless” and said that the organisation had made it clear time and again its support for reservations for Dalits, scheduled tribes, other backward classes and those getting it on economic grounds. “A needless controversy is being sought to be created over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s address at a programme in Delhi. He merely stressed on the importance of addressing issues in society through mutual talks in harmony and called for considering a sensitive issue like reservation in a similar manner,” Kumar said.
The Centre’s bid to amend Article 370 of the Constitution can hardly be seen as a “cordial dialogue” between the government and the subjects of Jammu and Kashmir. The bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories and amendments to its special status took place under heavy militarisation, a communications blackout, curfew and the detainment of several political leaders in the region.
