Madhya Pradesh: Narmada Bachao Andolan Activists Attacked By Sand Mafia

Sand mining is prevalent in the ghats of Narmada in spite of a ban. Some members of the sand mafia attacked Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activists in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, said a GoNews report.

The Jabalpur High Court and National Green Tribunal have banned sand mining in the Narmada region. The NBA activists work there to ensure that the order is followed.

Nearly 40 members of the mafia attacked two of the vehicles used by NBA activists. They were injured due to heavy stone-pelting by the mafia members. A video of the incident has also emerged as shown by the report.

The NBA activists have filed a complaint against five members of the mafia at Barwani Police Station. “The alliance of sand mafia, politicians and administration is intact,” said the activists.
