Today I Lost My Father. Who Will Lose Their Father Tomorrow in Communal Incidents?: Slain Bulandshahr Cop’s Son
Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was shot dead during mob violence in Bulandshahr.
Speaking to the media after his father’s murder in an episode of mob violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, Abhishek Kumar Singh, the son of slain police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh said, “My father wanted me to be a good citizen who doesn’t incite violence in society in the name of religion. Today my father lost his life in this Hindu-Muslim dispute, tomorrow whose father will lose his life?”
He added, “He was a very good human being. The last time I talked to him, he asked me if I had food. He lost his life in the line of duty,” he said, barely able to speak. “Sometimes, he would be told not to investigate some case…but he always did.”
On December 3, violent protests broke out in Bulandshahr after carcasses of 25 cows were allegedly found in forests close to a police post. Right wing protestors took to the streets and blocked a road. When the police tried to intervene, they resorted to stone-pelting, which in turn led to the police opening fire.
Singh was shot dead as he reportedly tried to contain mob violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. According to reports, the mob that allegedly killed him took away his service gun and mobile phone as well.
Singh’s sister too, has criticised the Yogi Adityanath government’s communally-divisive cow agenda, and has even claimed that her brother’s death was a police conspiracy and that he was killed for probing the 2015 Dadri lynching case.
