Shame: Rape Accused Bishop Mulakkal Receives A Hero’s Welcome In Jalandhar
The Kerala High Court granted him bail on Monday, after which he went back to Jalandhar.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal, accused of raping a nun on multiple occasions, was given a celebratory welcome on Tuesday by his supporters who showered him with rose petals and garlanded him.
The Kerala High Court granted him bail on Monday, after which he went back to Jalandhar.
Speaking to the reporters here, Mulakkal said, “The prayers of the people of Punjab supported me. I believe that they will pray for me even in the days to come. I thank everyone. Investigation is underway and I am co-operating. I’m a law abiding citizen and I trust the legal system of the country,” reported NDTV.
The court granted bail to Mulakkal on the conditions that he has to surrender his passport and not enter Kerala except when asked to appear before the investigating officer.
Reportedly, he received a similar welcome in Kerala as well when he was leaving for Jalandhar.
“I escorted him to his car, as there were hundreds of people who came to express their support to the Bishop,” said independent MLA PC George.
“There were hundreds of his supporters, including several nuns and his well-wishers who conducted a small prayer session outside the jail,” he added.
The Bishop of Jalandhar has been accused of raping a 44-year-old nun 13 times between 2014 and 2016. The woman filed a complaint with the police in June this year, after alleging that the church authorities did not act on her complaint.
