Goodbye ‘Wave’: Amit Shah’s Jamshedpur Rally Also Sees Swathes of Empty Chairs (Video)

A BJP leader at the mic even requested people to occupy the front seats because “empty chairs don’t look good”.

The trend of poor turnout at BJP rallies persisted on 8 May when a party president Amit Shah’s rally Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, witnessed rows of empty chairs.

In a video posted on Twitter, a speaker at the rally can be heard asking those sitting at the back to come forward and sit on the chairs in front, because “empty chairs don’t look good”.

The camera eventually pans around to highlight the extent of the number of chairs left empty, even as the BJP president is sitting on stage.

ANI reported that at the rally, Shah appealed to voters to disregard development and vote for national security instead.

He said, “Don’t give vote for development works to BJP candidate Bidyut Baran Mahto in Jamshedpur; vote for him because Narendra Modi made the country’s border secure.”

Polls in Jharkhand are taking place in four phases. Jamshedpur votes on 12 May.

This is the second such rally presided by Amit Shah that saw a low turnout. On March 24 BJP workers in Agra were forced to cover up vacant chairs with saffron cloth at the BJP chief’s rally.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha rally in Meerut on March 28 also witnessed an embarrassingly low turnout.
