In Ahmedabad, No Islamic Monument To Be Beautified Under Municipal Corporation’s Pilot Project
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has chosen five non-heritage Hindu sites for a project to highlight architectural details.
In Ahmedabad, the Municipal Corporation has chosen five out of 54 heritage structures to install luminaires to highlight their architectural details, Ahmedabad Mirror reported. The corporation did not include even one out of the 34 Islamic monuments present in the city for this lighting project.
The 600-year-old city is popular for its Islamic monuments like Rani Sipri Mosque, Sidi Saiyyed ni Jali, Ahmed Shah Mosque, Jama Masjid, Bibiji’s Masjid and Sarkhej Roza. It is one of the reasons why Ahmedabad got the coveted Heritage City tag by UNESCO.
However, the officials have preferred to not beautify the Islamic monuments and given preference to the others. They claim that they have carried out a survey to pick suitable landmarks for the pilot project.
