- Under Modi, India Reeling Under Financial Anarchy: Sena
In a fresh attack on the central government, the Shiv Sena today said the nation is reeling under “financial anarchy”. The BJP’s carping ally said many banking frauds have come to light during the four-year-old tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought to know what action has been taken by his government against those who “looted” banks. “The economy of the country has been destroyed under the Modi government. Modi wanted to show that he, and not (his predecessor) Manmohan Singh, was the real economist by bringing the rupee at par with the US dollar,” the Sena said in an editorial in its party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’. The Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) today condemned former minister and BJP leader Lal Singh’s statement threatening Kashmiri journalists. KEG has condemned the criminal statement of Singh who has issued a direct threat to the Kashmir media. Singh, who was earlier being termed as a serious sufferer of foot-in-mouth disease, has moved way ahead and issued a direct threat to the media in Kashmir, a spokesman of the KEG said in a statement here. Singh, a BJP MLA, has warned Kashmiri journalists to draw a line between reporting facts and supporting terrorists or face the fate of Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari, who was shot dead by militants. Although they had submitted all documents, including voter list of 1966 and a certificate from the village head (gaonburha) that confirms that she is the daughter of Fazlur Rahman and was staying with her parents until her marriage, her lawyer said that her case is still in court. In a suspected case of honour killing, a 20-year-old woman was hacked to death allegedly by her father for eloping with a boy younger to her in Anoopgarh town of Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district, police said. The incident occurred in 27A village in Anoopgarh town today when accused Balveer Singh (45) attacked his daughter with an axe while she was sleeping in her room, SHO Anoopgarh Naresh Kumar said. The girl was in a relationship with a boy younger to her belonging to the same community and the duo ran away to avoid their parents’ outburst, Kumar said. Read more.

A 12-year-old boy had to ferry his ailing grandmother to a community health centre in a cart in the neighbouring Basti district as no ambulance was available, prompting the district administration to order a probe. Chhotu was with his 85-year-old grandmother Anara Devi at his home at Kamalpur village on Friday afternoon when her condition suddenly started deteriorating. Neighbours tried to call an ambulance, but unfortunately, none was available. Chhotu then decided to carry her in a cart to the Vikramjot community health centre, around 3 kilometres from his village. Read more.

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today hit out at the NDA government at the Centre for “ignoring” the Union Territory on several counts and ‘slashing grants,’ crippling its developmental projects. A 26-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on the road after a government hospital in the Budhana town in this district refused to admit her giving no reasons, her husband alleged today. Yusuf said he took her wife Farzana to the government primary health centre after she experienced labour pain yesterday, but the hospital denied her admission. “As we were taking her to another hospital, she delivered the baby on the road,” he said.
