Indefinite Shut Down Continues In Manipur University As Students Demand Vice Chancellor’s Replacement
A committee of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has been formed to initiate dialogue among the MUSU, MUTA and VC.
The Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) staged a protest outside the Manipur University campus on Thursday, demanding immediate replacement of Vice Chancellor (VC) Adya Prasad Pandey. They claim that the VC has not worked for the development of the university.
The agitated students formed a human chain outside the gates of the university to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the current administration.
MUSU had announced an indefinite shut down of the university on May 31. MUSU president M Dayaman told The Assam Tribune that the students’ body would continue various forms of democratic protests if the VC is not replaced.
The Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has asked the students to resume the routine classes.
A committee of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has been formed to initiate dialogue among the MUSU, MUTA and VC.
RK Anand, convener of the committee said, “The stand-off at the university which started on May 31 has become a serious issue, threatening the careers of students.”
