‘Instant Justice On The Road’: Twitter Users Threaten AltNews Co-founder Pratik Sinha With Murder
The threats were issued soon after Sinha disclosed the identities of a few right-wing troll accounts.
Pratik Sinha, co-founder of fact-checking website AltNews, was issued death threats on Twitter by two different users.
The first threat came on Friday, January 25, by an anonymous user. The user wrote that Sinha “should have been killed”. However, the tweet was deleted shortly after Sinha took note of it.

The second threat came in the early hours of Saturday, from a user named Sanjiv Das. The user wrote, “someone should find this guy @free_thinker (Sinha) and give him some instant justice on the road.” Sinha noted the irony that in a subsequent tweet, the same user had written that the right-wing “is usually non violent”.

Speaking about the threats, Sinha said, “(I) have received a death threat before over phone which I did report to the police, (I) have not considered reporting Twitter threats to police yet, but might if the trend continues. Yes, it is a matter of concern that people are so emboldened than they even go to the extent of threatening physical harm, an act which is punishable under Indian Penal Code.”
Sinha had reported the first threat to Twitter, however, received an email saying the threatening tweet was not a violation of Twitter rules.

Sinha had come under fire of right-wing trolls after he, piecing together publicly available information, had disclosed the identities of a number of people behind anonymous troll accounts that routinely spread fake news and propaganda. Sinha’s efforts were appreciated by a number of Twitter users, especially women, who cited that the now-outed anonymous accounts bullied and intimidated them routinely.
