Teaching Students Hatred: Question On Muslim Slaughtering Cow In Exam Paper

The Delhi govt has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

A bigoted question regarding a Muslim slaughtering a cow in front of Hindus that  appeared in the third semester Bachelor of Legislative Laws (LLB) exam on December 7 at the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi reportedly has been removed.

Reportedly, the question asked, “Ahmed, a Muslim, kills a cow in a market in the presence of Rohit, Tushar, Manav and Rahul, who are Hindus. Has Ahmed committed any offence?” After it triggered controversy, the question was retrospectively removed by the university.

Speaking to The Telegraph, university registrar Satnam Singh said, “We regret this question. It is, of course, communal in nature. The question stands deleted and no marks will be given for it, irrespective of whether a student has attempted it. The controller of examinations will issue an advisory to the examiners so that such things don’t happen in future.”

Delhi deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisodia criticised the question and told The Telegraph, “It’s really bizarre — an attempt to disturb harmony in society. If true, strict action will be taken. The government will order an inquiry.”

According to The Telegraph’s report, if found guilty in investigation, the paper setter could be booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sec 153A (promoting enmity among religious groups) and could face a prison sentence of up to three years.
