Jaipur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s son rammed his SUV onto a pavement on Friday, killing two sleeping labourers.
Bharat Bhushan Meena was reportedly drunk – the police found the alcohol level in his blood to be nine times the legal limit.
The SUV, which carried posters of Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Gaurav Yatra, is registered in the name of local BJP leader Badri Narayan Meena.
The passers-by handed over Bharat Meena to the police officials. The police have charged him with attempt to murder and rash driving under the influence of alcohol.
A local police officer told NDTV, “The car hit people sleeping on a footpath, yesterday. Four people were injured and admitted to the hospital. This morning we were informed that two of them have died.”
Bharat was accompanied by three of his friends, who were also found drunk. The vehicle first hit the pavement, after which he accelerated in an attempt to flee from the spot. He then lost control of the speeding car and ran over the sleeping labourers.
